Who would be the audience for your media product?

Straight from the beginning, we showed that the genre is going to be a thriller but also going to be about youths. The beginning shows a black male about 17, blacked out from head to toes, which sort of symbolises danger. Using a female of the same age shows that something is going to happen between them but she isn’t going to be a dangerous person as she is dressed casual, like a normal person on a normal day so the audience knows that its either going to be that they were going to meet each other or something is going to happen, and the closer they got the more the tension built up. The fact that he isn’t looking at where he’s headed while he’s walking on raises the tension even more and then switching to her and seeing the she isn’t looking as well shows that they are both going to collide and this is what will raise the eyebrows on the faces of the audience as the question the audience will be asking is what is going to happen next?!

It is kind of this movie as it is kind of the same looking at the different ethnic groups and backgrounds in it, so hopefully it will attract all the different people just like this movie did. Again this movie can be compared to our movie but again it is a lot more violent than our movie is.
It could either be that they will like each other or which is normally what happens, and this is why we changed it because normally a mixed race girl is seen to be normally liked by boys so they would anticipate that he would like her and when they see it is going to be the exact opposite, this will hopefully shock them, and this will then hopefully drag them into the movie more and make them want to know what happens next. This is done to try to bring in viewers of other genre, but it will b too late to stop watching after they have seen part of the movie because they will be too drawn into the suspense already.
Although the movie was made up to be for a niche audience, looking at the characters and the storyline and everything about the movie, I think it will go beyond our expectations, going to become a movie for a niche audience. One of the reasons am saying this is it could also maybe grab the attention of the older viewers, this is because of the therapist in the movie, she is older than everyone else in the movie and she is quiet formally dressed and appearing to be trying to help, she could be seen as the mother figure to the very disturbed teenager, which is what tends to happen to people when they have been through such traumatic events, anyone and everyone is always there for them to try am make them feel comfortable and help.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

We are looking for an audience in between the age of 15 and 20. The trailer should attract a mass audience as there are a lot of people within that age group and this is the type of age group are attracted to this kind of genre, a thriller, and its something that could happen to anyone in an everyday life and this is what makes it so interesting and this is what would attract the viewers. We are looking to attract all types of ethnicity. In the clip, there are black, mixed race and Asian people in it. This will hopefully attract a lot of people of different races to watch as it as different races on it. Even though we are targeting teenagers, it could also appeal to older viewers, especially females as the victim in the clip is a female. This is what could happen to females, and looking at the clip they are put out to be very fragile and very scared, but some females would not agree as this could also happen to some males and this is what would drag them into watching it. This clip also shows the female running away because she cannot do anything to stop the male character which most people would not agree to as they would see this as being a coward and guilty for running away, and even if she was to run away, she could have gotten some help, all this is what will drag in the viewers to come and watch and comment on it.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvBR75OJpaE
This is a clip from Kidulthood, this film is about people who are about 15-18 who are trying to be gangsters, which is like the male in the clip, this is shown by the way he reacted hen he was bumped into by the girl, he dint care if it was his fault, to him it was all the females fault and he really doesn't care what she thinks and this is been shown by the way he confronts and shouts in her face as though she was not good enough to be near him. This shows the male dominance over the females, and it also shows how very low tolerant they can be and then they take it into the next step, and for males is violence as females are normally inferior to males and the male are superior. Although our clip isn't this violent, it is still the same concept as our clip because here they bumped into bigger boys and because they are smaller they are seen as inferior but unlike our clip, the littler ones actually bullied the bigger ones. This film goes into a lot more detail of how things happen in real life as you can see, the racism and the boy bringing out a knife, this shows how easily provoked teenagers are this days and they result to violence and in this case using a knife as well, although he never got round to using it. This is what both films are about but

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Our project mainly represents individuals in their late teens. The subject of the opening scene is about a teenager being attacked, if a teenager was watching the clip they may be able to relate to it as it may have happened to them or someone they know. Our project is also represents teenage females as they are the main theme of the film, the females are the ones being attacked in the scenes. We've made the project so that it represents teenagers as we find that it puts us at an advantage as e are teenagers ourselves and therefore know how the teenage mind works and what goes on in a teenagers lives. Our project represents teenagers between the ages of 16-18. It could be said that our project represents teenage males as aggressive and violent as the male involved has all these traits. The attacker in the film is a black male which could also be seen as representing the stereotypical view of how black males are portrayed in this day and age. He is dressed in all dark clothes which a lot of boys nowadays wear, which could show he’s trying to hide his identity. It also represents boys as being violent; it shows them in a bad light. Also it represents males as being dominant over females, because the bay in the film only has to shout at the girl for her to be scared and nervous around him and want to get away as quick as possible. Our project represents females as very emotional characters. The female in our project goes through a number of emotions such as nervous, scared and guilt. It also represents females as being inferior to males because when she is faced with the male it is almost like she wants to curl up into a ball and disappear instead of confronting the situation of the male shouting at her, this is why most females are scared of males but the female who got attacked shows that she wasn’t scared of males which was why she was fighting back and ended up with her getting brutally attacked, and this is what most females are scared of. But although one of the females in the clip is very scared and emotional there is also the psychiatrist who is female. Although we don’t find much about her she represents females as being successful, strong women who can get far in life. Our project also represents groups such as mentally ill people, because our main female character becomes mentally unstable because of the things she has experienced. It represents mentally ill people as being extremely vulnerable. It also shows how mentally ill people are able to talk about their feelings when they are with a psychiatrist. In this talk, she shows what happened, made her become mentally ill, her worst night mare. Just like anyone else, she blames herself for not helping the girl that got beaten up even though if she stepped in, she would almost certainly have ended up like the girl or maybe even worse, she might have been killed.

What our project is based on

Our media project is loosely based on the first few minutes of the low budget movie London to Brighton directed by Paul Andrew Williams. We wanted our project to have a sense of mystery about it; we didn’t want to give too much away in the first few minutes. But we did want the beginning to have a powerful impact which keeps the viewer gripped. In London to Brighton they achieve this by the main character coming into a toilet with a swollen eye, but there is no indication to who has done it.

In the beginning of London to Brighton we didn’t start with a big establishing shot like a typical Hollywood Blockbuster. We made sure that the shot was just focused on the characters involved as they are the main attraction of the film. London to Brighton did this by focusing on the woman and her daughter as they ran into the toilet which showed that they were the main things going on in the scene. Although most of the camera work used in the film was handheld in our project we only used the handheld shots when the storyline was getting really intense. The handheld camera gives the film a lot more effect as it makes the viewer know that something fast paced and intense is going to happen.

The sound used in our project is going to be a mix of Diagetic Sound and Non Diagetic Sound. We will have a voice over of one of the characters speaking which is going to be based on what she is thinking in her head. We will also have a backing track quietly in the background which will add to the eerie effect of the opening scene. In London to Brighton the sound used was purely diagetic. Although there opening scene is mainly dominated by diagetic sound of the two characters talking to each other. This added to the effect of the scene as the way they were talking was very fast paced which shows that the character are in a rush for something.

The editing in our opening scene and the opening scene of London to Brighton are both quiet similar. Both the scenes both contain quite quickly paced shots which add to the effect of the film. It gives the film opening scene more depth and keeps the viewer gripped which every film maker wants.

Day 8

Today we planned where the film would be shot. We rearranged a place to meet up which was picadilly gardens and searched around town to see which location is appropriate for our plot. We wanted the location to be isolated and abandon looking. Thus the location that we chose was a deserted allway in picadilly as we wanted the victim to be attacked by the gang leader in an eerie location. Another location that we chose was a main road so that the second victim could accidently bump into the gang leader. We also took camera shots of the location that we will be filming in. The group also physically took pictures of them acting which was also testing the story boards camera shots we completed. Once we took pictures of the scenes we decided that some of the camera shots need to be changed as it did not fit into the scene.

Today we also filmed the scene containing these camera shots, however the group went through many difficulties to make the camera shots as appropriate as possible. The location we chose was also changed because it was too crowded as we wanted the location to look a little deserted. This was improtant for us because if we filmed the scene we would need the same people in the different camera shots and this would make the video clip seem very confusing. Therefore we chose a location that was less busy.
